What to do?
Starting with the Atxurra, the options for recreation are multiple.
There is a great diversity of landscapes, beaches and cliffs, marshes and dunes that offer an ideal natural setting for water sports such as surfing or diving and other adventure sports such as archery.
The marshes that form part of the Urdaibai reserve are an obligatory stopover for migratory birds travelling to North Africa, making it a privileged place for bird watching. An ideal place to learn about the environment is the Madariaga Tower, the centre of biodiversity in the Basque Country.
A network of trails and mountain bike routes has been designed to offer travellers the chance to discover the reserve’s scenic and ethnographic treasures.
You can rent bikes and pick up maps with the trails and even rent at the Mendata Mountain Bike Center.
The Urdaibai region offers the possibility of enjoying the time dedicated to leisure with the cultural and historical.
You can visit different types of museums and places of tourist interest such as Gernika.
You will find the Museum of Peace, the House of Assemblies and the Tree of Gernika.
The Santimamiñe Caves, an example of cave art in Spain, and the Oma Forest, a work of art by the famous artist Ibarrola, consisting of paintings on trees.
