The ten rural tourist accommodations that make up the Ea Astei Houses are located in one of the most beautiful places in Bizkaia, in the vicinity of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, on the flank of a mountain overlooking the Cantabrian Sea.
Its very name – Ea, for the municipality where it is located and Astei in Basque, oak grove or place of oak trees – is an indicator of a cozy natural corner capable of hypnotizing anyone.
The original house, Astei, is a typical farmhouse dating from the end of the 15th century.
That is why the visitor will have the opportunity to learn about some of the old traditions and ways of life of the Basque Country through the utensils and belongings that have been collected and lovingly restored by Mertxe Begiristain, the owner of the house.

Built in wood, Casa Vita is the first building in Euskadi that generates its own energy in a totally ecological way.
It is a floor of more than 170 square meters, elevated above the ground, with large and spectacular glazed terraces overlooking the forest of oak and eucalyptus trees.
It has a beautiful fully equipped kitchen with a pantry and laundry, a large living room of 80 square meters, 3 bedrooms with large double beds, one of them with an original round bed and all with a full bathroom.

ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA
What to do?
The surroundings of the Houses of Ea Astei provide an endless number of activities, among which the following stand out.
The most populous city in the area where you can visit the Juntas Generales (foral government) of Bizkaia.
A place of symbolic value for the Basques where the legendary Tree of Gernika and the Peace Museum, a thematic museum that spreads the “culture of peace”.
Laga and Laida are beaches with spectacular views, ideal for surfing or enjoying a meal in front of the sea.
These deposits were located at the time of the Roman Empire, at least 2000 years ago, and it is in that period when its extraction began.
Proof of this are two funerary arks from the 1st and 2nd centuries located at the Forua site, which were carved in this material.
At the top of a steep path is the hermitage of San Miguel de Ereñozar. A hermitage that was the parish church from the tenth century until 1660, the year in which the current one was built in Elexalde. In its interior there is a stone sarcophagus of great antiquity.
According to the chronicles of Alfonso XI, in this place was located an old fortress where some Biscayans who opposed the entry of the monarch to the territory in 1334 took refuge.
